Ned Schwing mentioned in his reference ebook around the Product 1890 & 1906 that Winchester started evidence marking them in 1908… I have no idea if that may be precise, but will presume that it is. The “WP” evidence mark was used following the barrel and receiver have been mated, assembled and finished. This is highly evident within the firearms created while in the late teenagers as a result of early 30s once the blue flaked (popped) off in the event the proof was struck about the receiver body.
